Last Day

Friday 25th May 2018

The kids had their play rehersals. This means they don't put on their costumes on. Micrphones were set up in the conference room. Break was at the usual time. All of the kids played football and tag. For a first, no one was crying! Lunch was earlier than usual. As always, I went to Hebert Park the weather was great today and probably the best all week. Ms. Kelly gave me the task of looking after 1st form for thirty minutes. The kids watched the movie 'Joey' which is about a baby kangaroo on a adventure. 1st class was very giddy so I had to pause the movie a few times.

The kids then had their play which they put on their bear costumes. They looked adorable! They sang four songs altogether. I watched them and I was so impressed and interested. They projected their voices very loudly and they were filled with confidence. Their moms and dads were also impressed as they cheered and clapped. My job was to hand out programmes to the kid's parents. Mr. Howe helped with the acting for the play and Ms. Hartnett did the music. Tony Kilcommins who is the principal made an announcement saying he was astounished with the amount of talent the younger years have. I agree with him.  Overall, I loved the week and I am going to consider becoming a teacher when I grow up.

4th Day

Thursday 24th May 2018

The day started with PE with Mr. Keenan. Mr. Keenan gave up and let the kids do whatever they want. The sports hall was filled with loudness! I played  some tag with the kids because I wanted to get involved. They started laughing when I could'nt catch them! We returned to class and some doctors were there. Some Junior Infants kids had to get their vaccinations done! The last time I got my vaccination was in 1st Year. I got two injections on my right arm since I have cerebral palsy on my left arm.  All the kids coped really well and they were rewarded with TV, biscuits and orange juice.

The kids played basketball, dodgeball, football and tag outside. I played with them and had lots of fun. As expected, I went to Hebert Park for lunch. The wind nearly blew my food away! After lunch, the kids rehearsed for the play on stage in the conference hall. Mr. Howe helped them with their lines and Ms. Hartnett helped them singing their songs which include Bare Necessities, Simon Smith and his Dancing Bear, Teddy Bear's Picnic and Zippity Do Dah. Senior Infants and 1st Class were there also and I got to see all of the three. I was very impressed and the children have great acting skills. Below are the songs that they will sing tommorow.

3rd Day

Wednesday 23rd May 2018

As usual, today started with the Lord's Prayer. Next was Drama with Mr. Howe.  The kids the play that they were going to do on Friday. I had Mr. Howe in 6th class. The kids got better and better as Mr. Howe went through the play over and over again.  English followed and I was given the task of correcting the kids books. I put smiley faces on the books to cheer the kids up. 10: 15 was break. I observe the children playing football and tag. I lined all the Junior Infants up. Some kids forgot to get their lunch boxes off the bench which delayed some time.

Irish followed and again I had to correct the childrens books. Dolores told one kid that they were going to stay in for lunch but, she forgot to put him in! Lunch began and as usual I went down to Herbert Park.  Some seagulls were after my food! I saw some kids in St. Conleths play some football. They were really good! I arrived at the school 20 minutes early. I saw Dolores on duty and had a chat with her. Near the end of lunch, there was a fight. Three kids were involved. Dolores told them to sit on the bench while she was talikng.

After lunch, I was assigned the task of getting paint brushes from the Art Room. The Art Room moved so I had a hard time  finding the room. The colours of the walls changed when I was there. They looked beautiful and very bright! Eventually and thankfully, a teacher helped me. I saw Ms. Halpin who was my Art Teacher. She didn't recognise me which was expected. I got the paint brushes and went back. On my way back I saw Tony Kilcommins who I greeted with a wave. I was a bit tired when I got back to class.

Junior Infants drew, coloured and painted themselves. I helped them with this by assisting them getting colours and using the pritstick to stick on the crest. Music was next and Eimear ( the music teacher) helped the kids recite the songs for their play. The kids were very loud but they were amazing.

2nd Day

Tuesday 22nd May 2018

Welcome back. Today I was 15 minutes early which was a good start. Also, today was less classroom based and more classses were held outside of the classroom. As usual, we started at 9 o clock with the Lords Prayer. PE was next and I was excited because there is a new sports hall. Before the sports hall was green, now, the sports hall is blue and looks much better. I met my old sports teacher who was Mr. Keenan. He recognized me which was great and asked me what year I was in. I was in charge of looking after the kids who played football outside of the sports hall. The kids were very excited when they heard the news that they were going to play football. At the end, some kids argued about the score which then Ms. Kelly told them that it was just a game.

Next was Computers. Mr. Travers didn't seem to recognize me which was understandable because lots of kids come and go in this school. The kids were doing cycles on butterflies, caterpillars and frogs. They used the programs Max Show and Encarta Kids.  I remember using Max Show and Encarta Kids ten years ago! I looked after them and showed them the way. I had break outside. I watched the kids play football. They aren't actually that bad. I lined up all of the kids in Junior Enfants. They led while I followed behind them.

Irish was after break. The kids did some colouring and listened to Dolores. There were a few messers in the class and Dolores wasted some time giving out to them. Junior Infants then rehearsed their play together. They were all very loud and chatty! Dolores taught them how to project their voices and to be heard. I think this is important because making yourself being heard may influence decisions and choices. English followed and I was given the task of handing the books to the kids. The kids were polite because all of them said thank you.

I went out for lunch at half eleven which I asked Dolores if it was ok that have lunch at Hebert Park. She said it was grand but I had to be back at a quater past 12. It was a bit chilly outside which I realised that I should have wore a sweater. I returned to the school ten minutes before the curfew which I was happy about. I saw Dolores who was on lunch duty and was delighted that I was back early. The kids sang their songs for the play. They were excellent. Dolores showed the kids the stage that they were going to be performing on. Overall, I thought the day went great.  See you soon.

1st Day

Monday 21st May 2018

Today I met with my supervisor who is Dolores Kelly. She taught me in 1st class. I arrived at the school at half 8. There are 11 kids who I worked with today. They are very cute and are such messers!  The principal who is Tony Kilcommins met with me also. I had him in 5th Class and he is very nice and caring. At 9, we started our day with the Lord's prayer. We then did Irish. I helped my supervisor by correcting books and looking after them while she was away. At a quarter past 10 I had a break which lasted for 15 minutes. We did some Maths after break. One kid knew all the answers which Ms. Kelly told him to be quiet because she wanted to let all of the other kids have a chance.

I had lunch at 11:30. I went to Herbert Park. Last time i was at Herbert Park was Graduation in 6th Class which was four years so this brings back some memories. There is a new shop there. I returned to the school at 12:15 where I helped Dolores more in the classroom. At 1 o clock, I accompanied Junior Infants and Dolores to the Secret Garden. I haven't been there before so it was a new experience for me. We went fishing for mud in the pond to keep the garden a more clean and tidier place. I enjoyed today and I am glad that I got the first day out of the way. Bye for now.
